Escobar’s work explores issues of representation and perception. In his series Perto Demais, he extracts details from massive publicity posters, erasing their context in the process. In his studio, Escobar uses various interventions such as puncturing holes and layering imagery to distort and create the images anew. In other work, Escobar employs collage and model construction to re-contextualize history and the urban landscape. Mundane advertisements for tourist hotels become pop-up books revealing the chaotic reality of the city within a labyrinth of buildings, people, nature and signs in his Ciadede Secrete.
